\n“This agreement represents a shared commitment to supporting our educators and ensuring we remain competitive in attracting and retaining top teaching talent,” said Hegenauer. “We appreciate the dedication and professionalism of the BCEA leadership and our negotiation team in reaching an agreement that benefits our students, staff, and community.”
\nThe new contract now places educators with the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) who teach pre-kindergarten on the K-12 salary schedule.
\n“Investing in early childhood education is one of the most powerful commitments a community can make to its future,” said Hegenauer. “When we recognize preschool teachers with fair, professional salaries, we affirm the profound value of their work in building the foundation for lifelong learning.”
\nBCEA President Ed Clements emphasized the importance of the agreement for educators and the students they serve.
\n“Our teachers and educational staff are passionate about providing the highest quality learning experience for every student,” said Clements. “This contract reflects our collective investment in our schools and our community’s future. We’re pleased to have reached an agreement that values the hard work and dedication of our teachers.”
\nThe Board of Education approved the agreement during a meeting on September 2, 2025. The new contract takes effect immediately and will remain in place through the end of the 2027-2028 school year.

During the final board meeting of 2024, outgoing board members Thomas Baird and David Welch were recognized for their years of service. Other current board members include Board of Education President Matthew Felan, Vice President Joslyn Jamrog, Secretary Carrie Sepeda, Treasurer Michael Kelly, and Trustee Lorraine (Laurie) Jeske.
\n“In a year filled with achievements and challenges, our school board members preserved to help provide the best possible education for our students,” said BCPS Interim Superintendent Rick Seebeck. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is just one small way to express our appreciation for all they do.”
\nSchool board members represent the views and priorities of their community in the complex system of maintaining and running a district’s public schools. They also reinforce the principle of local control over public education, which is an important and highly valued aspect of education in Michigan.
\n“Too often, the efforts of school board members go unrecognized,” said Seebeck. “Even though we are making a special effort during January to show appreciation, we recognize their contributions reflect a year-round effort on their part. Our school board members continue to govern to improve student achievement and provide exceptional education for all our community’s children.”
